Dan pointed out a program on TV he was watching yesterday where a young man was in prison for life for being a habitual marijuana user, he doesn't remember what state.
I'm speechless.

I found out the hard way that AL is one of those states that you can easily end up serving a lot of time for marijuana. It was only my first offense (I was caught with less than a joint!), and I was going to go to trial because I was also up for a DUI, in which I blew .07. I ended up taking a plea, because they scared me with the threat of a felony conviction. So, I took the two misdemeanors and paid some huge fines.
Years later, I got set up and knocked down when an undercover cop handed me a roach with a filter on it at a concert. I tried to fight that one too. They laughed at me, called me stupid, and charged me with a felony. There is no 3 strikes or anything there. A second conviction can be an auto felony, if they want it to be. I plea bargained and just gave them almost all the money I had, on the promise that I'd leave and never come back. They took that deal.
