DVR to VHS recording

I have spent quite some time searching for away to record vhs tapes from my Direct TV hr23-700.I have a a Zenith Vra422 vhs and it has 3 composite(rca)input and out put plugs and 1 each coax(ant)in and out.I have tried every combination possible from the dvr to vhs and it will not record on the tape.I have also looked into going from my tv back to the vhs and it is also not possible.I think I`m wasting yours and my time now but I could record no problem with my old dvr from DTV.Anyone have any ideas of a work a round?

Found this MK,

Never used a DVR. But if you view the movie you play from a DVR on a TV, you can record it by attaching your VCR between DVR and a TV. You would need one extra standard A/V composite cable. Hook up A/V output from DVR into a A/V input of a VCR. A/V out from a VCR into the TV. Turn VCR on and switch the input to Aux (might have a different name depending on VCR brand). Start movie on DVR. Record to VHS as you normally would
I'm not much help sadly cause I've never done this either....

Good Luck though and I hope you sort it Brad

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but many VCR's have a scramble protection after a certain year. They made it impossible to duplicate tapes. Could that have something to do with this? Are you getting a scrambled signal, or just not able to input anything at all?
Why do you want to transfer to VHS anyway? Isn't there a way to transfer into your computer and burn to DVDR?

Yes on pc I believe. There is a usb port on the front but from what I can find out it is for later use.I have plenty of new sealed vhs tapes and it is in the surround system. The vhs is older and does not have an s video input on it or I think I could do it that way.The old dvr recorded just fine to the same vhs and from what I can find at Direct some movies are macroed and some are not. When I pay $5.99 for an hd movie I`d like to watch it more than twice in 24 hours (or 3 times)No signal at all Mike and that is hooking it up to all 3 sets of output jacks to the 3 input jacks on the vhs.I think I fubared cause Waynes idea is how it is set up now and originally.

I know my parent's DishNet DVR receiver has a way to hook it up and transfer movies to a computer. I guess, since you're paying a fee to see the movies, you then own the movies, and they allow you to save them. If there's a way to do that, that would be the way to go, IMO. That USB port may be for connection to a PC? If you can transfer them to PC, then you could do whatever you want with them, like convert and burn to DVD's.

I can't seem to find a PDF manual for it to take a look.

Ah, here are the manuals...

And the HR23 manual...

It has ethernet. Looks like it's only for streaming from the PC, but not to it, though.
