It's sustained high decibels that hurt your ears and isn't necessarily irreversible. I tried being cool when I first worked in the engine room aboard ship (didn't wear my Mickey Mouse ear protectors), and had a slight hearing loss, six months later after wearing full ear protection, it was back to normal. And besides, I'm over 50, kicked a lot of bad habits over the years and this is one I'm going to enjoy, until they make Rock n Roll illegal. ![]() Most of ya sound like a bunch of old ladies in this thread.

My buddy Dave lost quite a bit of hearing just from stranding next to the drummer and being exposed to the cymbal crash all the time, and that was just weekend jams. It didn't bother me as bad, but perhaps just because I was standing on the other side? I've never worried about hearing loss, myself. I stood right in front of the amps at Iron Maiden, which I believe was the loudest concert I've ever been to. I was actually worried that time. My ears rang for nearly 3 weeks.
